5. Setting up the Simulation

  1. Select all the primary inputs in the design. All the ports should be highlighted as shown in Figure 11.

  1. Next, select the WF Editor from the side palette. Click on EDIT WAVEFORM and the window in Figure 12 should appear.

  1. There are two ways to give test stimulus. The first way is to do it manually. The second way is to load it from a file. For purposes of this tutorial we will load the stimulus from a predefined force file. I will go through two examples of creating the stimulus using CLK and RESET. Select UNSELECT ALL from the palette menu.
  2. Select forces@/CLK in the trace window.

  3. Select Stimulus from the Waveform editor pallette.

  4. Click on ADD CLOCK and you should see a dialog box like that shown in Figure 13. Type in 100 for CLOCK PERIOD and 5000 for STOP TIME and then click on OK

  1. Select UNSELECT ALL from the palette menu.

  2. From the trace window, select forces@/RESET.

  3. From the Stimulus palette, select ADD FORCE. For value and time, enter the values shown in Figure 14.

  1. Next, we are going to load the rest of the stimulus from a FORCE file. Select SETUP>FORCE>FROM FILE. Navigate to the file ud_counter.force.You should see the dialog box shown in Figure 16. Note: This file should be under the directory /applications/webserver/docs/mentortu. If you get an error, delete all text in the pathname and then type in the full pathname yourself.
